"LOOK FOR .... the latest Alfa Romeo 1/43 news"

"We are very happy that we are back again....."

January 2005

"Buon Alfa Miniatura 2005...!"

The major annual toy fairs have not started yet, but many manufacturers are already busy announcing new models. But from the past we know very well that it may take a (long) while before you can actually buy these models. The industry seems to have great difficulty in planning the launch of a new model and because of competitive action some (nice) plans are even never realized....

- Minichamps (die-cast): Every month a considerable number of new models are announced.... but it seems difficult to produce within a certain time schedule what has been promised.. This is well illustrated in the booklet attached in the new serie  "Le Glorie della Alfa Romeo".  This range consist of 12 models showing the sporting and styling of our favorite brand, all done in full cooperation with  Alfa Romeo . The booklet, included in the first 3 models, start with a historical foreword by Elvira Ruocco (the well-known lady of Alfa's Archives dated Febr.2004) and refers to the Museo Arese with an overview. Each model in the serie is limited to 4004 pieces :

1) Giulietta Sprint 1954 blue  (planned for June 2004 so it would have been on time for "50 anni Giulietta") - Euro 27-31

2) 33 TT 12 1975  (Augustus 2004) no2 WKRT,  Monza 1000km won by Merzario-Lafitte. Model is ready now January 2005.

3) Freccia d'Oro 6C2500  (October 2004), are the real green wheels of the Museo 6C bigger.? - Euro 31-38

4) 8C 2900 B LeMans 1938 (December 2004), no19 Sommer-Biondetti, unfortunately again a model we know/have already from  BBR, Provence Moulage or even a good valued Pinko.

5) Alfetta tipo 159 1951 world champion (planning Febr.2005) no75 Juan M.Fangio

6) 75  3.0 V6 America 1987 (April 2005) colour black. (ref.403 120463). in our opinion, a good choice to model.

7) 6C1750 Gran Sport 1930 (June 2005) Scuderia Ferrari with Tazio Nuvolari, winner of the Mille Miglia 1930.

8) Gran Prix tipo P2 1924 (August 2005) world champion in 1925 under Vittorio Jano's management. Best choice !

9) Giulia Sprint GTA 1965 (October 2005) winner of the European Touringcar Championships in 1966-67.

10) 8C Competizione CentroStile 2003 (December 2005), that certainly will be wellcomed by all collectors as a nice and good alternative to more expensive resin build models. Who will be the first to have this model on the market ? Until now Alfa Romeo forces all manufacturers to wait  until the 1:1  8C will be offered for production !!!

11) Giulia TZ 2  Zagato racing car 1965 (Febr.2006) . Why this car...we already have many good Provence and Best models?.

12) Spider Duetto 1600 , the Graduate from 1966 (April 2006), would they add a "Dustin Hoffman" figure in a movie diorama ?.

In addition to this "Glorie serie" we still are waiting for the earlier announced green/white 156 Polizei demo and the light blue Museo 8C 2900 B coupé....

- Norev (die-cast). 3 Alfa models with the new "Brera like" fronts have been announced. What a surprise to found on Ebay the first limited edition of a 156 Crosswagon Q4 in a tin promo box in an olive green metal colour !!!!

- Spark Model  (die-cast) Last month we announced the new racing cars, the first 2  156 GTA are ready now at approx. Euro 35    They are looking very good , very detailled, well fitted decals.

- S0451  156 GTA  "Autodelta"  the ETCC 2002 champion car driven by Fabrizio Giovanardi (#1)

- S0459  156 GTA "GA Motorsport Sureterm"  BTCC 2004 driven by Carl Breeze (#23) from Britain in black .

- Vitesse Sunstar Toys  (die-cast). Many Spider Alfa models have been added to the magazine ranges. In the "Classic Cars of Italy" serie Sunstar reissues the Spider 1750 Veloce Coda Tronca from 1968, in black with red interior. (ref.20051 limited to 1320 pieces) seen at  Euro 24 . Instead of adding more colours we have contacted them with our suggestion to make the "Amsterdam Police Spider" or adjust the moulds to" America Spiders" or the "Niki Lauda limited editon Coda Tronca" with Brabham striping !?

- Provence Miniatures Automobiles. Staff from the bankrupt  Provence Moulage and from the late André Marie Ruf AMR company consider to continue with a limited range of resin kits. On their first list is the Alfa 8C Competizione 2003 by Centro Stile (ref.PMA007). Off course a model most wanted by all of us, but they will face strong competition by BBR, Looksmart,  RaMei and Minichamps !  PMA 1:43 resin kits will cost around  Euro 54. Why not make the virtual cabrio model ?

- Group2 Kits  from England.  Very nice looking kits with etching parts. Four different  Alfetta GTV's are available. (ref GRT 76031-34)  GBP 36.55 . All participated at the 24 hrs Francorchamps in 1976 and were part of the Alfa team sponsored  by  "Gardens Stores" no 31, 32, 33, 34 winner of the King  (of Belgium) Cup.

- Gulp Model. Marco Sambataro is planning to add in his limited 1:43 resin handbuild range a  Sportiva 2000 Bertone coupé 1954, the silvergrey metallic car from the Arese Museo. Replicars/Western Models have build the unique red model in 1991 in metal. Another good choice by Marco will be the Michelotti Giulietta SV 1961 "Goccia", Monza GT raced in  1961. This yellow car still exists nowadays. The basic moulds are ready, but it is too early to say when Marco will be ready with this nice model....we still are waiting for his 2003 announcements ...  the Giulietta SS aërodynamica spider/coupé, a 1900 Touring coupé and a 4R Zagato ! Keep going Marco !

- Gamma Simple / Klaxon. Massimo Gambari & Renato Martella have told me their plans for the next months. No pictures yet, but as usual very good choices. In the "value for money" range Gamma Simple we may expect in the nearby future (March) :

- SG 24, 25, 26  Alfa 1900 sprint Touring 1952  in red, green and black. Euro 65

- SG 27, 28, 29  Alfa 1900 coupé supersprint Touring 1956, 2-tone, red/black, blue/silver and light blue/blue. Euro 70

- SG 30, 31, 32  Alfa 1900 SS Zagato 1956, burgundy, blue and metallic green. Euro 65

- SG 33, 34        Alfa 1900 SS Zagato 1957 cabrio, silvergrey and blue. Euro 65

The more expensive Klaxon (resin handbuild) serie will offer to us:

- KLK39  Alfa 6C2500 SS 'Supergioiello' coupé Lido Venezia 1950 (the 2-tone version of the beautiful blue jewel)

- KLK41  Alfa 6C2300 B cabriolet "Worblaufen"  1938 !!!.    Klaxon kit Euro 49 / build Euro 180

- "Miniauto & Collectors" magazine from the well-known Giorgio Nada Milano group started as a quarterly magazine on scale models sometime ago. By now the frequency has been reduced twice a year. The number 11/2004 M&C issue has a nice main article telling us the history of Alfa Romeo, 14 pages English-Italian, with many pictures of various models. Good quality paper, print with the latest news from the industry as known in December. (with also many Alfa's). The magazine displays many  E-mail addresses and websites. Euro 10, available from Automobilia in Milano.

December 2004

A remarkable number of new items 2004 have been found during the last month of the year... It will not surprise you any more that much new Alfa models will carry in the future the well known 'made in China' label...   But there is also good news coming from Europe....  the Provence Moulage-Starter group survived and will fortunately continue their production of resin kits with a limited program.

- Minichamps 1:43 , as planned, have launched the Alfa 2003 Spider 3.2V6 24 valve (ref 120332), 2204 pieces. "Schwartz, Breit und Stark" matt black on big Fulda tires. A nice surprise is their new serie !!!, already available in the USA, in red promo boxes :" Le Glorie della Alfa Romeo , Sportivita e Stile, dal 1910 ". A technical description and an original photo are shown on the packaging:

- ref 403120403  Alfa Giulietta Sprint coupé 1954,  colour light blue  (4004 pieces).

- ref 403120483  Alfa 6C2500 Freccia d'Oro 1947,! colour black with green wheels; the first own Alfa design after the Wwar 2. Again a perfect example of serie die-cast quality previously only met in expensive handbuild series (4004 pieces) !

-ref 403751202  Alfa 33TT 12 sportscar 1975 of the  WKRT (Willy Kausen) team no2. (also limited on 4004 pieces).

- The Chinese IXO group 1:43 is launching frequently many Alfa die-cast models, often under 'neutral' trademarks of publishing house Altaya:

- Alfa Giulietta 1300 Spider 1959 open in red and white.

- Alfa Spider Veloce Coda Tronca 1979 open red (like Vitesse).

- Alfa Spider 3.2V6 new type 2003 open , colour red.

- Alfa Giulietta Sprint coupé, colour red.

- In Italy an Alfa GT (new Bertone coupé type) is for sale, likely from a Chinese IXO or Norev source ? Based upon these models the Italian 'Lovoglio' has made "phantasy  transfers" to Polizia, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza GT's for sale on Ebay. He has also converted 155, 156, 156 Sportwagon cars into Polizia, firebrigade and ambulance Croce Rossa vehicles.(approx > Euro 35)

IXO have offered in their own classic boxes a Giulietta Berlina 1956, ref CLC045, colour red, for approx. Euro 24. Very well modelled with improved details over the known RIO die-cast models. The windows have chrome frames, better wipers, good interior, steeringwheel with claxon ring, mirrors, decals and lights, all to the usual high IXO standard...!

- We can expect from Norev from China the "new front" 2003 Spider and GTV, and they have announced to come with a new grille 2003 Alfa 166 in metallic grey !

- And we have even more good news from the Far East! Spark Model from HongKong is well known for their reasonably priced 1:43 quality die-cast LeMans sportscars and GT racers. They now also will concentrate on Touringcar race models and not only the BMW's but also the very nice Alfa 156 race GTA and 147 GTA (Dutch !) Pearle Cup models !! What would you think of the next models .... ?!?! Have already a look at www.sparkmodel.com !!!!

- From our artisan friend in Malaysia I have heard that the Ban-Seng Model  red race Ital Design Scighera GT will become available soon. A few years ago I (=Fer Akkermans) gave him a few model suggestions with photographs. And ....he announced last week : the mould is ready for the ADUS 1999 'Centauri' roadster (Bologna Motor show). A 2-seater spider, designed and build by Walter de' Silva with students of the design academy. Through the front window the 3V6 engine will be visible, the metallic orange bodypannels, with a blue and metal look interior will certainly make a beautiful prototype model !

- Yow Itoh from Japan is a master builder for exclusive ann expensive (>Euro 250) Alfa models.  A side step is his new range of cartoon models (and resin kits) of the latest Alfa prototipo's. Next models are available : the CentroStile 'Nuvola' coupé, the Ital Design 'Brera' and 'Visconti', the 'Kamal'4x4  SUV  and Wolfgang Egger's  8C Competizione.

- Artisan Ilario Vecchiato of Model IV Factory has made a number of good 1900 SSZ  and Junior Zagato models. New is his  8C2900 B GS, by carrozzeria Zagato. (ref IVMK015). Kit Euro 75/build  Euro 190 .This black  "gran sport" spider was shown first on the Milano Salon of 1937 and is on the front cover of the Zagato 70 years book. The model is not well-known; an unusual design by Zagato with round wheel covers and large separate headlights; Only modelled until now by Yow Itoh Japan 1:43 (see Novità February 2004). Ilario made also a very nice Fiat 615 2# serie Furgone van, dark blue with decals "assistenza Alfa Romeo Squadra Corse". (ref  M15 )kit Euro 49,50/build Euro 165.

- In 2005 we could expect the first resin kits by  RaMei.!! Ralf Meiser has shown us a picture of the 6C2300 B Mille Miglia 1938 Spider (ref RMK03), currently being resin moulded . The ETCC Autodelta 156 Super 2000 driven in the European Touring Car Championship 2004 is the next item on his planning list, as kit RMK05. That is the new front grille racing car, driven  this year by the AutoDelta team with Gabriele Tarquini, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Agusto Farfus. In 2005 Alfa Romeo will participate in the WTCC, the FIA world series for super 2000 touring cars....

November 2004

- During the last months many older die-cast models are trying to get a second chance. In southern Europe the magazines with car models included are very popular at the news stands .  Solido has with  Hachette re-issued their whole program in classic yellow look-a-like boxes "les Jouets Solido" for prices around Euro 8-10. Nice to start a collection, disappointing if you have bought the originals at full price in the past....

We have already spotted in this Solido retro range: Nuvola concept coupé, lightblue 156, m.grey 147, m.grey 166, Carabo Bertone, Alfetta GTV 1979 red, GTV coupé(916), Bertone GT blue, Giulietta spider monoposto and red 6C2500 Touring. One of the winners of this year was superb 8C2300 carrozzeria Viotti coupé lungo 1935, owned by Arturo Keller from California. This 8C was found in Somalia (!) and underwent a top-quality complete restoration. The 1:43 model can be expected from master handbuilder Ralf Meiser (RaMei) but he needs still some pictures of the interior. Can anyone help him ? Ralf  is also preparing the production of the Sportiva Spider 1955 no244 "Rocco di Pappa" driven by Consalvo Sanesi, and a 6C2300 B MilleMiglia 1938 Spider, both available in 2005 as resin kits !!

HAVE A LOOK

October 2004

 - The 28th Hobby Model Expo in Novegro Milano revealed a lot of new models this month. The Italian die-cast manufacturers will have to battle with their "made in Italy" against the ever increasing cheaper productions of large series in China. The Italian handbuild artisans have come up with much more original choices, while the famous resin kit company Provence Moulage-Starter France found themselves in deep financial difficulties !  - Progetto K don't have any new models, but they are extending their current moulds with more variations in colours and new decals:

- PK2041 Alfetta GTV6 no41 1983 24 hrs. Francorchamps team Drovanti-Brancatelli (yellow - red)- PK2042 Giulietta no28 1977 Campionato Italiano Turismo (white with red/yellow/green striping ) "Jolly Club"

- PK176A Giulia Giardinetta 1978 Carabinieri Militare in army green.

 - Welly China 1:18 die-cast. They are the quickest to launch the new Bertone Alfa GT coupé in red and silvergrey. The quality does not seem to be on a high standard, poor on the windows and hood fittings we have heard from our friends.- Bburago die-cast. Their 1:18 Alfa GT coupé has not be launched yet, but could be expected to be on the usual high top quality. Bburago has know many variations on the wellknown 1:43 Street Fire Toys 156 range (ref.41005). For only Euro 2.50 in Vigili del Fuoco (fire brigade) red with white striping and darkblue Guardia di Finanza (finance fraud police) form. The 156 Polizia Penitenziaria is aswell for sale in the larger scale 1:24. - Minichamps 1:43 die-cast. The Giulia 1600 is now available, dark blue with white roof Carabinieri '35', in a limited serie of 3024 pieces. ref 120 990. Top quality made in China for approx.Euro 28. During the 4th quarter we can expect much more very nice and interesting Alfa news from Minichamps!!- Brekina 1:87 H0 scale. Top Decoration for Euro 8. The Giulia Ti/Super range has been extended with very detailed versions. ref.29500 Super red, 29503 Ti green Polizia Squadra Volante, 29504 Polizia Ticino CH white, 29505 Ti red, 29506 Super Polizia 113 blue, 29507 Super no311 24 hrs.Francorchamps 1964. Look at the etchings and antennas in such a small scale 1:87 !!!- ABC Brianza 1:43 handbuild and kits. The announced Barchetta sportscar 1900 from Scuderia Conrero is ready now. The original car was offered for sale in 2002 on the Classic Motor shows in Antwerp and Gent (Belgium) and gave Andrea Brianza the idea to create this racer in 1:43. - Claxon/Gamma Models 1:43 super handbuild and kits. Renato Martella & Massimo Gambari are by far the best handbuilders at this moment, their range of classic Alfa's is really outstanding ! New are now:

- ref.KLK38 6C 2500 open convertible 1937 by carrozzeria Boneschi (silvergrey,red or blue)- ref.KLK40 6C 2300 Mille Miglia 1937 Pescara coupé (red)

They now offer also a very attractive die-cast series "Gamma Simple" 6C 2500 SS cabrio (light blue.) at Euro 70 range.

- Alfa Model 43 FDS 1:43 serie handbuild. We are sure that Francesco De Stasio sr. did have a good time at the Concours Schloss Schwetzingen 2003. Or did he spent some evenings reading and enjoying the famous Anselmi "6C 2500" book ? .Anyway, his latest 6C 2500 SS tipo 256 cabrio carrozzeria Farina 1940 is amazing and (unfortunately) expensive... A very special Alfa Romeo with remarkable lines with a not Alfa-like grille. Did Jaguar copied that in their XK later ?? The superb model is available in different colours (crème, red, light brown, amaranth) and even in a velvet gift box with a blue car ! - As mentioned already in our previous newsletter Angelo Tron hold his promise and made the very nice Giulietta Spider 1956 owned by Corrado Lopresto. Many of us had the opportunity to see the car at different occasions (Como Villa d'Este, Schloss Schwetzingen Germany, 2nd Spa Italia on Franchorchamps and Palace "Het Loo" Netherlands) His Giulietta Spider from 1956 is the 2nd prototype by carrozzeria Bertone designed by Franco Scaglione, restaured in a 2-tone champagne-white colour. Compared to the better known 1st red spider prototype, this cabrio has a round scaped grille (like the later SZ?) and a more regular Giulietta boot and lights. In earlier times Angelo Tron made already the 1:43 model of the 1st Bertone Giulietta and his new model will be appreciated by many Miniaturisti..- Gila Modelli 1:43 Our well known truck specialist Roberto Gilardoni is brave enough to be the first to ever model an Alfa Romeo city bus. He already started with his Gila Alfa 800 racebus of Scuderia Marzotto, followed by an grey - blue variation of the Scuderia Ferrari. His new creation of the 140A city bus by carrozzeria "Siai Marchetti" in the green-green Milano lay-out from 1950 is really very nice ! Much attention has been paid on the interior and seating. It won't surprise you that large and exclusive models like this have its price : 206 Euro for a kit and 335 Euro build by Gila Euro. - Make Up /LJS 1:43 serie handbuild. Mr. de Saronno is aiming for the Japanese handbuild market in addition to their very good LookSmart models like the Montreal, ES30/SZ and RZ, under the LJS trademark. New are a red Spider Duetto 1966 with open roof and a closed soft-top Spider 1750 Veloce 1967. Euro 137 is a high price for models that are very similar to the wellknown ex- Vitesse series. - FB Models 1:43 serie handbuild. Franco Borin will soon have the complete 156 GTA race cars in his program:

- 156 GTA team Autodelta test 2003 by form 1 worldchampion Michael Schumacher on Varano circuit together with Tarquini. - 156 GTA team Autodelta 2003 ETCC (European Touring Car Championship) champion G.Tarquini no4 and N.Larini no3- 156 GTAm Autodelta 2002 Motor Show Bologna a street version in black.- 156 S2000 team Autodelta 2004 G.Tarquini no1 and F.Giovanardi no2.
