Run Devil Run Listening Party, September 28th 1999
Brussels - Cologne is only a 2 hour ride. So when I heared Paul was coming to Cologne I just had to go. Thanks to the list I participated in the EMI Germany game and won two tickets. My beatlepals Raf and Bernie went along and when we arrived 5 to 10 fans were already waiting. A quick tour round the E-werke partyhall learned us that the pressroom was being decorated with posters and covers from Run Devil Run. One of the decorators left some RDR promo material for us! A good start for this Paul event...
Meeting fellow listers is always great; and just like in Siegen I enjoyed chatting with our German members, Ute and Harald. At about 3.15 pm the limo's went off to pick up Paul. Between that time and 6 pm about 1000 people arrived at the entrance. In the mean time I asked Geoff Baker when the Tour is gonna start because I have to plan my vacation at work and he said "that the tour will not start until next year". I give this info FWIW, of course :-)
The cheapest Paul event I've ever been to!

When Paul arrived at 6 pm he had to step about 15 meters from his Mercedes to the entrance. I didn't time his appearance but he must have broken is personal record; it took him about 7 seconds to get in. At first I didn't recognise him because he was wearing very dark sunglasses, and by the time I took a picture he was already passing just in front of me.
Mary and Paul arriving (Mark and Geoff can also be seen)
The party itself was much like the other parties in NY and LA I guess, so nothing special. I noticed John Hammel was filming the audience for a verrrry long time. I suppose he watches these tapes when there's nothing on television ;-) I'm aware that the photo's I took with my small Olympus mju1 are very bad, so I propose that Macca-l buys a camera to let listers from all over the world take official macca-l pictures.

After the concert I recieved the guest invitation of a VIP I knew from Siegen. I got in with his badge, went to the first floor to have a beer and some veggie reception leftovers and recieved a press kit which contains an interview with Paul, song histories, some other texts, two beautiful large pictures and a promo CD labeled RDR002 for promotional use only!
I'm very sorry but I don't want to scan the official photo's (first there's the legal question and second I'd like to keep my website as original as possible). Nevertheless the pictures are quite good; one has Paul, eyes closed and hands in his pockets, at the microphone, the other shows Paul with his hofner and Vox AC30 in the background.

The trip to Cologne was well worth all the effort and I hope to see you all on
one of the coming events,
